Scientists first discovered the cardio protective effect of fish oils when they were studying the Greenland Eskimo’s. the scientists were amazed to discover that the Eskimo’s ate large amounts of fat, yet had a low incidence of heart disease. The scientists eventually worked out that they were eating fish rich in Omega 3, which lowered their cholesterol and increased their fish oil HDL levels.

As you know, fish oil HDL is the good cholesterol. It is when your LDL gets high that you have a problem. LDL cholesterol sticks to your artery walls and causes hardening of the arteries or atherosclerosis. When the LDL hardens , it sometimes breaks off and causes clots that block your arteries and causes heart attacks. Or it accumulates until the arteries are completely blocked and you still have a heart attack.

Saturated fats and trans fatty acids are bad for us, they do our health no good at all. The body does not need them and they are an unnecessary part of our diet. Omega 6s and Omega 3s on the other hand are a necessary part of our diet. But we must take care that they remain in balance with one another, and make sure that we do not consume too many Omega 6s

You need to look at your Omega 6 ratio to your Omega 3 ratio. It should be quite close. However some people have a diet where the Omega 6 ratio is 30 : 1 you can lower this ratio just by changing the oils that you cook with, for example, stop using corn oil, sunflower oil, and the other high saturated fatty oils and start using olive oil to cook with, this will lower your cholesterol.

Just remember that Omega 3 fatty acids can lower your triglycerides (blood fats related to cholesterol), you must remember to take a regular dose of Omega 3 supplements, fish oil HDL is the best thing you can do to lower your cholesterol. If you take the time to do these things, you will live a healthier life, and probably a longer life.
